Based on the analysis of our own research and generalization of available literature data on the occurrence and distribution of lichens in the territory of Azerbaijan and the Volga Delta, rare and protected species have been identified. For Azerbaijan, 44 rare species have been identified, including 10 species subject to protection, classified into 3 categories: category NT (in a state close to threatened) – 1 species, VU (vulnerable) – 4 species, LC (under least threat) – 5 species; for the Volga delta - 17 species. For a differentiated approach to protection measures, depending on the state of the species, a scale of status categories has been developed. All Astrakhan species subject to protection are classified into 3 categories: 1 (E), 2 (V), 3 (R). Status 1 (E) contains 2 species; 2 (V) - 9 species; 3 (R) – 6 species (which are common in the regions of Russia).
