This article analyzes the morphological variability of horseflies (Diptera, Tabanidae) and their larvae in various biotopes of Dagestan. The study examines the influence of environmental factors on trait variability in adults and larvae. The study also covers different altitudinal zones of the republic (lowland, foothill, and mountainous regions). It was found that the degree of trait variability differs between larvae and adults: larvae exhibit higher variability in response to changes in environmental conditions (floods, food shortages) compared to adults inhabiting airspaces. A number of traits are particularly sensitive to the influence of external factors.
Key words: horseflies, morphological trait variability, Tabanidae, Dagestan, larvae, biotope, abiotic factors, variability analysis, adaptation, population.
