The development of a comprehensive system capable of diagnosing diseases of agricultural and ornamental plants using images combined with textual descriptions of symptoms is a highly relevant and timely task. The aim of this study is to provide a theoretical basis for the creation of an online platform for the automatic detection of agricultural crop diseases and damage caused by major pest groups. The paper analyzes the features of several mobile applications focused on diagnosing plant diseases using photographs. The resulting platform development project should result in the creation of an open application programming interface (API), enabling third-party developers to integrate plant disease recognition functionality into their own software products—specifically, mobile applications, web services, and decision support systems for crop production.
